An addition is the point where a remodel becomes a construction project. There are drawings, a plan check, a foundation, a structural connection to the existing building, and a sequence of inspections that has to happen in the right order. Getting that sequence wrong is what turns a six-month job into a twelve-month one.
We manage the whole path — from the first sketch through to the final sign-off — and we keep it moving. One of our clients had us build a new ADU, replace a garage, and add a pantry and laundry room on the same property. Running those as one coordinated programme rather than three separate jobs is what kept it smooth.
California has spent several years steadily making accessory dwelling units easier to permit, and local agencies have their own overlays on top of the state rules. What is allowed on your lot depends on the jurisdiction, the zoning, setbacks, and what is already built. We check that for your specific address before you spend money on drawings — it is a far cheaper conversation to have early.
